For Kodachrome Fans, Road Ends at Photo Lab in Kansas
By A. G. SULZBERGER | The New York Times (online)
PARSONS, Kan. — An unlikely pilgrimage is under way to Dwayne’s Photo, a small family business that has through luck and persistence become the last processor in the world of Kodachrome, the first successful color film and still the most beloved.

That celebrated 75-year run from mainstream to niche photography is scheduled to come to an end on Thursday when the last processing machine is shut down here to be sold for scrap.

In the last weeks, dozens of visitors and thousands of overnight packages have raced here, transforming this small prairie-bound city not far from the Oklahoma border for a brief time into a center of nostalgia for the days when photographs appeared not in the sterile frame of a computer screen or in a pack of flimsy prints from the local drugstore but in the warm glow of a projector pulling an image from a carousel of vivid slides.

Free Apple iLife '11...no, REALLY!!!
Apple iLife '11

Seems a "heads-up" to Apple about iLife '11 wasn't all that important, despite the number of phone calls I made.

AFTER I purchased iLife '11 for $49.99 plus CT State Tax, I slid home (blizzard here!) and loaded it, looking for the serial number so lacking in iLife '09 et al. And once it came to registering the product, I was asked for the "MARKETING PIECE NUMBER" which is clearly visible on the OUTERMOST box, and, ironically, the Apple Cart website, if you should desire to buy this online. (MC623Z/A)

After speaking with four Apple Technicians and one Senior Tech, it seems like this is an "open secret" at Apple, and one not exploited by the masses.

Far be it for me to NOT share what I found out. After all, I didn't get much for my $50. And by reporting this to Apple, I didn't get anything other than "yeah, we know."

Well, if THEY know, and I know, I want YOU to know.

Just find a download site for a trial version of Apple iLife '11, and plug in the part number listed above when you go to register it, and enjoy whatever little features are there.

Sorry, Apple. But for $50, I expected a LOT more.

20:20 | How We Roll Here

The Fall | Tarsem (d.) 2008

Late to the Prom| Best Fkn Short I Saw in 2010

Late to the Prom| Best Fkn Movie I Saw in 2010

From the director of The Cell comes a visually stunning epic fantasy about a bedridden man who entertains a curious little girl by telling her a fantastical story of exotic heroes and far off places which reflects his state of mind. The central story takes place in a remote 1920's hospital where a small girl named Alexandria (Catinca Untaru) is recovering from a severe looking shoulder injury incurred in a fall while trying to pick oranges. One day she happens to meet Roy (Lee Pace) - a stunt or "gag" man for the "flickers" or moving pictures- who seems to have injured himself out of a future in a particularly reckless stunt, even for those times. He is a clearly unhappy man who- through his own carelessness- unwittingly leads Alexandria to believe that he intends to entertain her with a lavish, epic story of exotic heroes and far off places. As the stuntman's health reaches to the point of peril - so does the story he is telling her...with potentially fatal consequences.

BDL > ATL: Please open.

I never knew Atlanta closing would effect dogsitting in New Haven.

Sometimes you're just fkd.

And then you want to pray to the patron saint of the weather and don't remember who that is right off the bat.

Please?

She tops Grace, Lisa Gerrard, and Sharleen Spiteri.

And that's a tall order.

But there is only one.

Top of the Pops
December 1976

They said there'll be snow at christmas
They said there'll be peace on earth
But instead it just kept on raining
A veil of tears for the virgin's birth
I remember one christmas morning
A winters light and a distant choir
And the peal of a bell and that christmas tree smell
And their eyes full of tinsel and fire

They sold me a dream of christmas
They sold me a silent night
And they told me a fairy story
'till I believed in the israelite
And I believed in father christmas
And I looked at the sky with excited eyes
'till I woke with a yawn in the first light of dawn
And I saw him and through his disguise

I wish you a hopeful christmas
I wish you a brave new year
All anguish pain and sadness
Leave your heart and let your road be clear
They said there'll be snow at christmas
They said there'll be peace on earth
Hallelujah noel be it heaven or hell

The christmas you get you deserve

A Photograph of a Christmas Tree
Rumored to be a Robert Mapplethorpe Original

This photograph was found on the net after extensive searching. It was not doctored up in any way, and was presented on the original art site as a smaller photograph, signed, with the star.

I merely copied the photograph, enlarged it, corrected the levels, and "printed" it in the manner of a Mapplethorpe as actually printed by his darkroom Master Technician, Tom Baril.

The End of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
Sadly, not the end of war.

What's worse, really?

Telling a family their loved one is now a statistic of some pointless war?

Or telling your family, and your commanding officer you're gay?

By Jonathan Mann

(CNN) -- The United States is fighting wars in Iraq and Afghanistan but there are thousands of troops caught-up in a very different battle and President Barack Obama is promising to win it.
Obama says he will reverse U.S. law and military tradition to assure a place in the armed forces for gay and lesbian personnel.
"We should not be punishing patriotic Americans who have stepped forward to serve this country," he said over the weekend. "We should be celebrating their willingness to show such courage."
From the very start of his campaign for the White House, Obama has spoken-out on behalf of gay and lesbian Americans. They responded with what activists described as unprecedented support. Now they're waiting to see results.
"We want to see a timeline," said columnist Dan Savage. "We want to see some action."
Officially, only heterosexuals are considered fit to serve. Bill Clinton promised to change that when he ran for president, but he ran into determined opposition from the military brass and Congress.
The result of the controversy was a compromise called "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Sexual orientation is ignored if it's kept secret.
Even so, in the 16 years since, 13,000 men and women have been forced out of uniform
